Frequently asked questions

Facebook comment picker: a fair winner in under two minutes

Every Facebook giveaway ends the same way: hundreds of comments pile up under your page’s post and you need to pick one winner in a way nobody can question. Scrolling through the thread manually takes forever, and a screenshot of you "picking a random comment" convinces exactly no one. This free Facebook comment picker fixes that: paste the post URL, set your giveaway rules, pick winners. The whole winner selection takes less than two minutes, without logging in to Facebook or connecting your Facebook account.

Unlike most giveaway tools, this picker tool is completely free to use: the free plan covers up to 500 comments per draw, advanced filters, multiple winners plus substitutes, the story certificate and the draw animation. You never log in with your Facebook credentials and there is no paid upgrade hiding behind the draw button. Paste the post URL directly or enter your @page and select the giveaway post from a grid of your latest posts.

Pick a winner from Facebook comments in three steps

New to running a giveaway on Facebook? This short picker guide shows how to use the picker and draw random winners from Facebook comments without any setup:

  • Enter the post: paste the URL or choose one of your Facebook pages and select the giveaway post
  • Set your rules: filter duplicates, require @mentions or a hashtag, and exclude specific accounts
  • Click "Pick winners": the tool randomly picks winners from comments and plays the draw animation

That is all it takes to choose a winner everyone accepts. Once you have seen how the comment picker works, a draw takes less time than reading the rules: the comment list is loaded fresh at draw time, and you never have to export a CSV file or count the number of comments in a spreadsheet by hand.

Check Facebook giveaway rules automatically

Typical Facebook giveaway rules read like this: "comment with your favorite product, tag a friend, use #giveaway". Whether you frame it as a Facebook giveaway or contest, classic sweepstakes mechanics stay the same: people enter with comments and reactions, and you need a tool to pick a fair winner. Instead of verifying every comment by hand, the giveaway winner picker checks your entry rules automatically. You can filter by:

  • Duplicate comments, so every participant gets exactly one entry
  • A minimum number of @mentions per comment
  • A mandatory word or hashtag in the comment, comments without it are excluded
  • Replies to comments, which you can exclude from the draw
  • Specific accounts, like your own page or team members

One entry per person or per comment

In the default mode every person counts once, no matter how often they comment. Alternatively, switch to "one entry per comment": the more someone comments, the higher their chance of winning. That rewards your most active fans and pushes the engagement on your giveaway post even further, and the picker will still select random winners from the filtered pool. Measure the effect on your page with the free engagement rate calculator.

Fair, random and verifiable winner selection

A free tool is only trustworthy if the draw is verifiable. This free random comment picker draws with a cryptographically secure random number generator directly in your browser (Web Crypto API), not with a predictable pseudo-random function. Every draw receives a unique draw ID with a timestamp, visible on the 9:16 story certificate you can share, so your followers can verify the winner was chosen fairly: a random giveaway result becomes something you can prove, not just claim. You do not need a public results link, because everything sits on the certificate itself. Your community sees that a random selection won, not a friend of the brand. That makes it a true Facebook random comment picker, not a black box. Substitutes are selected in the same draw: if a winner breaks the rules or never responds, the next one moves up automatically.

Facebook pages, personal profiles and groups

The picker is built for Facebook business pages: it loads the comments on a Facebook post as long as the post is public, which is the default for pages. Comments from posts on personal Facebook profiles are usually limited to friends, so the tool has no access to comments there, and closed Facebook groups are private by design. Photo and video posts work the same way, all public Facebook post comments count, and only the comments on a post count as entries, likes alone do not. If you manage multiple Facebook pages, switching is easy: enter a different @page and the picker pulls the comments from Facebook without extra setup, one Facebook page at a time.

After the draw: announce winners & collect leads

Once the picker has selected your winners, download the ready-made result image and share it as a post or story. The real opportunity starts after the giveaway though: a good giveaway post produces hundreds of comments and messages, and that is where participants become customers. With a giveaway DM automation replient replies to every comment on Facebook and Instagram automatically via direct message, sends the entry link and collects email leads for your next campaign. That turns a one-off raffle into one of the most reliable ways to grow your page.

Pick giveaway winners on every platform

Want to run a multi-platform giveaway? The picker family covers every major network: draw an Instagram giveaway winner from the comments of your Instagram post, or pick winners from Instagram comments, TikTok comments and YouTube comments with the sister tools. You’ll find all free giveaway tools in the tool overview.

Legal basics for Facebook giveaways

If you run a Facebook giveaway using comments as entries, Facebook’s promotion guidelines require a complete release of Facebook, meaning a note that your giveaway is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by Facebook. Entry mechanics like "share this post on your timeline" are not allowed under the page guidelines, while comments and likes are fine. State the entry deadline, the prize and the selection method ("winners are picked at random with a comment picker") in your post, and notify winners via comment or message. Keep the list of participants and the certificate on file: if anyone wants to audit the draw later, you can show the applied rules and the winning entry. A transparent random draw with a draw ID is your best proof of a fair giveaway.
